We just had a wonderful meeting featuring Ann Lumbrezer who taught us some great recipes to use with our essential oils.
Cooking Tips with Essential Oils:
1. Water base recipes such as sorbets or smoothies – only 1 or 2 drops of essential oil (depending on the oil).
2. Fatty base recipes such as cheese sauce or fondue – use 3-5 drops of essential oil depending on taste. Start slow -it is easier to add then to subtract.
*Hot oils – cinnamon, oregano, even basil – you may only wish to dip a toothpick into the oil bottle and swirl into your favorite sauce
on fruit (apples) or on your veggies.
You can bake with essential oils. Ann discussed cookies she made with Orange Essential Oil instead of Orange Extract. Add the desired essential oil into your butter or shortening and mix into the batter. The baking will permeate the flavor through the dough.
Also, best not to add essential oils at the beginning of cooking a sauce or dish as it will burn off quickly. Instead add the desired essential oil (remember start with less and add if you wish) to the dish at the end of cooking or when cooling such as with vegetables. Olive oil makes a nice base to add essential oils and then brush onto foods.
Cooking with essential oils can be fun and definitely Healthy.
