Copaiba (Copaifera reticulata/langsdorfii) is a wonderful essential oil for easing inflammation.
It has its origin from Brazil and is from the resin of the split stem bark. Only the Brazilian Copal has the most published research on its anti-inflammatory qualities and is the only essential oil tapped directly from the tree. Other copals are distilled from hardened resin (Essential Oils Desk Reference, 5th ed, 2011).
Copal has a history of use by healers in the Amazon to treat pain and inflammatory disorders – both internal and external. It can be diffused, inhaled or applied on the body. It may even be added to food or rice milk as a dietary supplement.
Last week my dog had a reaction to her medication. She had excessive itching and just looked really uncomfortable. I assessed for essential oils that might be helpful and Copiba was the preferred one. I followed application suggestions for essential oils on animals in Dr Shelton’s book, Essential Oils for Natural Pet Care. This therapy seemed to ease her itching and allow her to sleep at night. Another added benefit was that it helped a small affected area on my hand that was red, dry and itchy after gardening!
Copaiba is definitely an essential oil that I will look to for cooling the flame!
